Introduces part of Okada Museum of Art's collection.Japanese Painting
The Museum has a wealth of Japanese artworks from the Edo period (1603–1868) onwards. The Museum's Edo period collection is diverse and includes pieces by Rimpa artists such as Tawaraya Sōtatsu, Ogata Kōrin, Sakai Hōitsu, Kamisaka Sekka; the ukiyo-e artists Kitagawa Utamaro and Katsuhika Hokusai; and Maruyama Ōkyo, Itō Jakuchū and other Kyoto painting circle members. From modern and contemporary times, one finds the art of Hishida Junsō, Yokoyama Taikan, Hayami Gyoshū, Uemura Shōen, Kobayashi Kokei, and Higashiyama Kaii.Oriental Ceramics
The museum has one of the best collections in Japan of Chinese ceramics that spans from ancient times to the Qing. From Korea, it has outstanding Goryeo ware and Joseon era blue and white pottery and white porcelain pieces. Its Japanese ceramic collection is centered around Hizen ware (Ko-kutani, Sakaida Kakiemon, Nabeshima), and also includes Kyō ware (Ninsei, Kenzan) as well as earthen and clay figures called dogū and haniwa, respectively.Asian Lacquerware
The museum holds lacquer ware from China, Korea, Ryūkyū, and Japan. Visitors are invited to enjoy the diversity of lacquer pieces from various countries and eras, including small Chinese containers with artistic engravings, wonderful Korean incense holders with detailed mother-of-pearl work, and gorgeous inkstone boxes with Rimpa-style lacquerwork.Chinese Metalwork
At the Museum visitors can view rare Chinese metalwork pieces: bronze works made years before the Common Era, Tang period silver pieces, and more. The metallic arts feature unique powerful shapes, beautiful and detailed patterns, and magnificent colors that have grown beautiful through the years.Religious Art
Religious art starts with Buddhism. The exhibit will include representations of Buddha's birth from the Asuka period, famous Buddha statues from the Heian and Kamakura periods, Buddhist paintings such as the Mandala of the Two Realms and the "Raigo," Sutra manuscripts, altar fittings, and more.
