Japanese Painting

The Museum has a wealth of Japanese artworks from the Edo period (1603–1868) onwards.
The Museum's Edo period collection is diverse and includes pieces by Rimpa artists
such as Tawaraya Sōtatsu, Ogata Kōrin,
Sakai Hōitsu, Suzuki Kiitsu; the ukiyo-e artists Katsushika Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige; and Maruyama Ōkyo,
Itō Jakuchū and other Kyoto painting circle members.
From modern and contemporary times, one finds the art of Hishida Shunsō,
Yokoyama Taikan, Hayami Gyoshū, Uemura Shōen, and Kobayashi Kokei.
